Who is SL Agritech Corporation?
SL Agritech Corporation (SLAC) is the company behind Doña Maria Rice, engaged in the research, development, production, and distribution of hybrid rice seeds and premium quality rice. Inspired by China’s success in overcoming food shortages shortly after the postwar era and becoming a surplus producer and exporter of rice, the Lim family sought and obtained the assistance of Prof. Yuan Long Ping to develop hybrid rice varieties suitable for the tropical conditions of the Philippines. The personal commitment of Prof. Yuan Long Ping—widely regarded as the “Father of Hybrid Rice”—laid the foundation for the company’s direction and growth, giving it a unique position in the development of hybrid rice technology in the Philippines.
Established on September 11, 2000, under the ownership and management of the Sterling Paper Group of Companies, SLAC may be relatively new to the rice industry, but it has demonstrated a strong competitive edge both locally and internationally. As an ISO-certified rice company, SLAC is the first and largest hybrid rice seed company in the Philippines and tropical Asia, as well as a market leader in premium quality rice. It is also the first local company to export high-quality rice to the Middle East, the USA, and Australia.
SLAC collaborates with several partners to promote the adoption of hybrid rice technology. In partnership with the Department of Agriculture and its hybrid rice program, SLAC remains committed to its vision of a rice self-sufficient and hunger-free Philippines.
